Description

We carry two different milk thistle extracts, this one being standardized to contain a unique nutrient called silymarin. Our other extract is standardized for dihydroquercetin taxifolin. Combining both would be ideal. Dihydroquercetin taxifolin is a powerful antioxidant discovered  from Larch trees. It was identified in the 1940's, and by 1958 the Journal of American Pharmaceutical Association published research establishing its safety. Much research has been conducted on DHQ and it hasn't disappointed. DHQ's forte is helping recycle other antioxidants and enhancing certain supplements. It also has anti-cancer, anti-aging (free radical quenching), regenerative, neuro-protective, liver protective properties. DHQ also has pneumonia and HIV fighting properties. (1-3)

Milk thistle may be able to help with certain types of cancer, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, kidney stones and disorders, free radicals, gallstones, and may improve skin health. In 2007, after reviewing multiple studies with milk thistle in relation to cancer, they concluded that there was strong evidence of silymarin's anti-cancer effects. The anti-cancer effects were seen in prostate, skin, breast, and cervical cancer.  According to researchers at the University Magna Graecia Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, silymarin acts as a cancer protector because it inhibits the binding of toxins to cell membrane receptors. Milk thistle also helps to protect and improve the health of several different organs in the body including the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, heart, and brain. It is sometimes used as a treatment for fatty liver, alcohol damage, jaundice, elevated enzymes, hepatitis, and inflammation. Milk thistle actually helps to regenerate damaged liver cells over time. Lowering chronic inflammation and liver health are both extremely important to overall health, and milk thistle accomplishes both. Milk thistle has also been considered an overall success at helping fight diabetes. People with metabolic syndrome and pre-diabetes will also find value in milk thistle. A 4-month, double-blind, clinical study was conducted in 51 people with type 2 diabetes. The results showed significant improvements in fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, SGOT and SGPT levels. (5-7)
