Ashwagandha is highly revered herb originating from India, and is sometimes referred to as Indian ginseng because of its panacea like effects in the body. We carry a few different extracts, and this one is a potent 60:1 extract. This would be excellent to pair with our 20% or 50% standardized ashwagandha extract. Ashwagandha is an amazing herb with an incredible range of benefits. It has pronounced mental, emotional, and physical based benefits, something many herbs can’t claim.
There are studies proving mood boosting/balancing, anxiety/stress/depression reduction, improved sleep, anti-inflammatory/pain relief, reduction in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, enhanced fat loss/lean mass/strength gain when lifting weights, thyroid and adrenal gland balance, neuron/dendrite/axon protection and regeneration, improvement of neuro-degenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, sperm health, libido increasing, anti-acid, cortisol reducing, OCD, blood glucose reducing, insulin sensitizing, asthma improving, anti-cancer, immune protecting and more! (1,2) As mentioned above, ashwagandha has the ability to regenerate and reconstruct dendrites, axons, and synapses. (3)
Ashwagandha’s pain relieving, anti-inflammatory effects outperformed cortisone according to an animal study. In a 1991 study, animals with arthritis were either given cortisone or an ashwagandha extract. The animals receiving cortisone produced a 44% reduction of symptoms, while the ashwagandha group produced an 89% reduction. (4) Ashwagandha is also very gentle and beneficial for people suffering from depression, anxiety, and stress. (5,6) A double blind, placebo controlled study showed very good effects after 60 days of supplementing with ashwagandha. Scores related to anxiety, depression, and stress all improved significantly. Cortisol levels were also lowered almost 30% in a relatively short time, which is a very clinically significant amount. (7)
In another little study with 6 people with diabetes, ashwagandha was shown to be as effective as drugs targeted for diabetes, without the side effects of course. There are several other studies proving that the positive effects of diabetes were very real and significant. One animal study showed both improved insulin sensitivity and reduced glucose levels. A 2009 study demonstrated that ashwagandha and shilajit (we also carry) significantly reduced fasting glucose levels. (8) Ashwagandha may also be useful for conditions of imbalanced stomach acidity and damage. Research shows a reduction in acid secretion and an overall effect that were either comparable to or exceeded drugs like Zantac and Prilosec, with additional protective effects. (9)
Suggested use: 200-300 mgs 1-2 times per day on an empty stomach with water. Dose may be adjusted based on how you “feel” on ashwagandha. Do not exceed 1000mgs per day.
