Suo Yang, also called Cynomorium songaricum, is a herb hailing out of China, and good for a number things. It is often used to tone and strengthen the kidneys and yang energy. It may help to decrease the frequency of urination, impotence, dysentery, moistening tissues, strengthening sinews and lower back, knees, and more. It may also be helpful for constipation because of its moistening properties. Cynomorium may also be beneficial for restoring decreased phagocytosis, thus strengthening the immune system. (1)
Cynomorium is also a great herb for men because it may help increase testosterone to some degree. It may also help lower blood pressure, promote the secretion of saliva, and increase the rate of DNA and RNA synthesis. (2) This may suggest somewhat of an anti-aging effect, although more studies are needed. Cynomorium helped in a dose-dependent manner to promote fertility in males by strengthening and increasing spermatogenesis. (3) It is proposed that cynomorium likely works from the hypothalamus and reproductive cells stimulating gonadotropin-releasing hormone from neuronal cells. (4) One piece of research shows that cynomorium may help with cell proliferation and neuroblast differentiation, which suggests a possible regenerative effect on the brain. (5) Cynomorium also possesses anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties.
Suggested use 450-550mg 1-2 times per day with water. Best when used with other thematic herbs and not just as a stand-alone.
